Provenance |
The man in the photo is identified only as "Brother Chris". ---- This accession relates to the family of Thomas Kristian Holmgard and Oline Christensen Holmgard. They worked on their farm, Haldergaard, in Aalborg, Denmark. They had nine children: Anna (married Herman Petersen), Kreston, Maria (married Anton Hansen), Gertrude (married Torvell Christensen), Kristena Laura (married Mortensen, remarried Christensen), Sena (married Theodore Miller), Clem, Jens, and Ida/Eda (married Fred Lambi). Eda A. Holmgard Lambi was the youngest, born in Aalborg, Denmark in 1892. She came to America in 1909 when aunt (her mother's sister) and uncle - Chris and Mary Christensen Mikkelsen of Harlan - sent her a ticket so that she could visit the siblings that had immigrated before her - Gertrude, Kristena, Sena, and Clem. Eda married Fred Lambi and they had two children: Genevieve and Harold. In 1931 Eda and her brother Clem returned to Denmark for the 50th anniversary of their parents. Eda was a telephone operator at Prairie Rose. She was an avid bridge player and also enjoyed knitting, fishing, canning, and baking. She was honored as a 50 year member of Easter Star in 1987 and died in 1988 in Greenfield, Iowa. Eda is on the museum's Wall of Honor. There is additional family information in the accession file. |
