This photograph is of Jens Jensen, the landscape architect. Hans V. Kirkegaard, the donors father, immigrated to the USA in 1926 but made the trip to back to Tolne, Denmark in 1949 for his parent's golden wedding anniverary on April 27, 1949. His wife, Thora, wrote a special poem for the occasion. In 1958 as president of the Danish National Committee, Hans returned to Denmark once again being honored as "Mayor for a Day" of Aalborg. Hans Kirkegaard was very active in Chicago's Danish American community during the first half of the 20th century. |
