Description |
Black and white photograph of a farm landscape. There are two stable buildings shown in the background and right side of the photograph; two windmills are behind them. There are four horses in the photo - two in the background and a mother and foal in the viewer left corner. The label formerly attached to the back is in the accession file. The first paragraph reads: "Danmarks samlede Overflade or 43.000 [illegible] Der er godt [illegible] / Mill. Indbyggered. Landbrug er det vigtigste D??hverev, og 74,4 / pCt. af Landess Areal optages her?f. Det besk?ftiger ca. 25 / pCt. af Befolkningen. Af de danske Landmænd har 48,7 pCt. / ?jendomme fra 0, [illegible] ha., 38,8 pCt. fra 10-30 ha., 10,4 pCt. / fra 30-60 ha., 1,6 pCt. fra 60-120 ha. og 0,5 pCt. over 120 / ha. D.v.s.ca.51 pCt. Husmandsbrug, ca. 48 pCt. ?iddelstore / Gaarde med varierende Arealer, ca. 1 pCt. meget sotre Land- / ejendomme. Billedet viser Lade- og Staldbygninger til er / stor Gaard paa Sjælland." The second, and English translation, says: "Denmark covers a total area of 43,000 square kilometers / (779 square miles) and has a little more that 3,800,000 / inhabitants. Farming is the most important occupation, and / it covers 74.4 per cent of the total area. It employs abt. / 25 per cent of the population. Of the Danish farmers 48.7 / per cent own holdings form 0.5-10. ha. (1 ha.=2.4711 acres) / 38.8 per cent 10-30 ha.; 10.4 per cent 30-60 ha. ; 1.6 per cent / 60-120 ha.; and 05 per cent over 120 ha. Thus, abt. 51 per / cent are small holdings, abt. 48 percent medium-sized farms / of varying areas, and abt. 1 per cent large estates. / Picture shows barn and stable buildings of a large farm in / Zealand." The last two lines read: "ROYAL DANISH MINISTRY FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS / COPENHAGEN, DENMARK. -Press Dept. Picture No. L..4" "Danish Embassy - D.C." and "10058" are written on the back and "SVEN TÜRCK / Vesterbrogade 37 / C. 12582-V.6342" is stamped there. |
