Description |
Black and white photo on the face of a postcard. The photo features a woman standing holding two large pieces of coal on top of her head. She has her left hand on the top piece, steadying it, and her right hand on her hip. In her mouth is a small pipe. She is wearing a cushioned hat, a top that has a "+" design on the front and long sleeves, and an apron tied in front. Behind her is another woman and what appears to be a hill. Below the photo is in red " "LUMPS OF COAL." COAL WOMAN OF ST. THOMAS, D.W.I." On back is a red line border and inside is printed, also in red, "DANSK VESTINDIEN BREVKORT. / POST CARD.". At the top center is written in pencil "14.50", like the price the donor paid for the postcard at auction. |
