This photograph shows Andreas Karstensen's home in Denmark. Andreas Karstensen was born on April 3, 1868 at Otis near Kolding, Denmark. His parents were Andreas Karstensen (1840-1924) and Marie Elizabeth (Petersen) Karstensen (1841-1926). Nicoline Juel was born on January 23, 1871 in Slesvigs, Denmark. Her parents were Niels Christian Juel (1844-1892) and Anna Marie Carstensen (1848-1942). Anna Marie was widowed in December 1892 and immigrated to the United States on March 13, 1895 with five children. Andreas and Nicoline immigrated to the U.S. in 1892, settling in Atlantic, Iowa, and were married on February 14, 1893 in the Lutheran church. Andreas was a farmer in the U.S., but had studied law and served in the army in Denmark. Andreas died in 1939 and Nicoline in 1940. |
