Description |
Black and white photo of a group of five people. The women on the viewer's left are each wearing long coats and brimmed hats. Each has a flower on her proper right breast and each is holding a purse. The man is in the middle and is wearing a dark suit, coat, and pants. There is a watch chain visible on his vest. The woman next to him on the viewer's right is wearing a long coat as well, made of a shiny material. She also has a scarf and a light brimmed hat. The woman on the far right is wearing a long coat as well and has something in her proper left hand. She is also wearing a hat. All of the subjects are looking at the camera. There is a path behind them through trees and flowers. The photograph is not centered with the margins; it is askew. The photograph has a white border. Handwriting on the back reads "I Grams have-". |

Note with the album (2002.090.014a) says it was kept by Dagny and Gudren Muller. It is of their 1928 trip to Denmark. This was the third trip for Dagny--she went at ages 5, 11, and 23. (Note was removed because it was a post-it note.) This photo was tucked inside the front cover along with 2002.090.014d-l. Thorvald George Muller was born in Brostrup, Denmark on June 7, 1873. He came to the U.S. in 1884 at the age of 11 with his parents, Jess and Johanne Muller; two brothers, Laurids and Viggo; and two sisters, Dagmar and Kristine. The family settled in Ord, Nebraska. When Muller began farming himself, he put an ad in the paper for a housekeeper. Mette Jensen Overgaard took the position. T.G. and Mette were married on September 30, 1904 in Kimballton. They were the first couple married in the newly completed Immanuel Lutheran Church. T.G.'s sister Dagmar and her husband Peter Bertelsen also lived in Kimballton. The Mullers settled permanently in Kimballton in 1908. They had a feed store later a general store. The couple had six children, Dagny Muller Rasmussen, Gudrun Muller Jorgensen, Ove O. Muller, Svend O. Muller, Kai O. Muller, and Eva Muller Machutas. T.G. Muller was awarded the "King Christian Medal of Liberation" by the king in 1949. There is more information on the Muller family in the accession file. |
