Postcard with illustration of cherubs with a silver background. Between the two cherubs is a brown rectangle with gold text that reads "A / Gift / of Love". The back of the postcard has a letter addressed to "Mr. Peter Madsen" from his daughter Laura. Inside album 1989.143.008a. 5 1/2" W x 3 1/2" L Peter Madsen was born on January 7, 1840 in Denmark. He immigrated to the United States in 1870 and became a citizen in 1878. Johanna Conradena Johansen was born December 10, 1848 in Jylland, Denmark. They married on October 7, 1871. Johanna died in 1888 from childbirth, and Peter in 1929. Both are buried in the Elk Horn Cemetery in Iowa. They had three daughters: Laura Sophie Sorensen, Martha Nelsine/Nicoline Andersen, Peterna Maren "Mary" Poulsen. Laurits (Lawrence) was likely their son. |
