Description |
Black and white photo, rectangular, horizontally oriented. Photo shows a group of women with two children. All women appear to be in dresses, mostly dark in color. Many have necklaces on and a few have glasses on. The woman at front center is holding one child, and the woman at back viewer's right has the second. Behind the women are two curtained windows, and between then a framed photo. The photo is inside a matteboard holder, gray with tan and lighter gray trim. It has a textured surface. On back is written in red (and a few in black) names of all the people featured. These photos represent Dania, the Danish Singing Society. They originally belonged to the donor's grandfather Anders Hansen. Anders Hansen was born May 4, 1870 in Magleby, Denmark. He was one of eleven children, six of whom immigrated. Anders was 16 when he immigrated to Omaha, where his first job was delivering newspapers on a pony. He married his wife Anna February 12, 1897 and had four children, the family living in the Sioux City, Iowa, area. He died April 22, 1952 in Omaha, Nebraska, but is buried in Floyd Cemetery in Sioux City. |
