One of thirty-four black and white photographs that were in an album owned by Johannes Otto Petersen. This photograph is of three men standing in a yard with trees behind them. They have their arms around each other. The man in the middle is dressed in a sailor suit with a sailor cap, and the other two are in shirts with sleeves rolled up to the elbow and brimmed hats. Provenance |
The inscription on the back states that this photograph is from his summer trip in 1929. The photos in this accession relate to the donor's step-father's younger brother Johannes Otto Petersen. Shortly before his death he had given John an album of photos taken during his years in the U.S. Johannes Otto Petersen's hometown was Fredericia, Denmark. He worked in the 1920s as a linotypist with the Danish Lutheran Publishing House in Nebraska. On his return to Denmark he spent the rest of his life as a linotypist with Politiken Newspaper. He died in 1982. The donor removed the photographs from their original album. June Sampson identified some of the locations in the photographs in her Thank You Letter to the donor as Blair, Nebraska; Racine, Wisconsin; California; and Montana. |
