Vertically oriented black and white photograph of three women outdoors. One woman sits in a wooden chair in front of the other two women who are standing with their hands at their sides. The women are all wearing light short-sleeved dresses that come down to just below their knees. The two standing women have small patterns on their dresses. They all have either very short hair or hair that is pulled back. They are standing on grass with plants and a row of bushes behind them. Behind the bushes there is laundry hanging on a line and a house on the left. There is a white border around the image. On the back is "July 16, 1941" in pencil followed by "Marge Henriksen? / married neice?", "Elizabeth Vogt / daughter", "Valborg Vogt / mother", and "2/27/2015 Note JVM / In backyard of Valborg's (Evanston?) or / Marge's (Chicago) ? / 4/26/15 Note by JVM / Marge married Albert Henriksen, a brother to / Bob (who Valborg took in after their parents died / in 1921-22). / Valborg was 66 years of age here.". There is also "0000" stamped in black in the upper section. |

The donor's grandparents were Asmus Christian Vogt (Fogt originally, changed after immigrating) and Valborg Valgerde Johanne Dressler Vogt. Christian was born in Nakskov, Denmark on December 13, 1868, immigrated in 1892, naturalized in 1898, and died on June 10, 1949. He and Valborg married in Evanston, Illinois on November 1, 1902. The couple had three children of their own and informally adopted a nephew. Valborg was born August 31, 1874 in Koge, Denmark, to Christian Frederik Dresler and Johanne Albertina Christiane Handrup. She immigrated in 1893, and died in Evanston, Illinois on May 1, 1965. One of Christian and Valborg's kids was Elizabeth Johanna, the donor's mother. She was born July 23, 1908, and died Jan. 20, 1980 in Omaha. This gift relates to 2008.011. Came to us in an envelope marked: "Snapshots of / Valborg Vogt (and others) / from the ~1940s / (some not dated)". Envelope is in the file. |
