Description |
Sepia tone photograph of a light-colored two-story farmhouse with a picket fence in front, people and horses posed around it - the Mathias Smith farm north of Kimballton, Iowa. There is another building behind it to the viewer right, and there are bare trees forming a wind break along the back sides. The house itself has a porch, two dormers with cut-out woodwork detailing at the top, and a bay window on the viewer left side. In the yard behind the fence are two women and a man. Outside the fence, directly in front, is a covered buggy pulled by one dark-colored and one light-colored horse. A young boy rides in the buggy while an older one stands next to its back wheel. Toward the viewer right side of the photo is another older boy riding a horse, with another riderless one hitched to it. The photograph is mounted on beige paperboard backing. Handwriting on the back reads, "8 P / H A Hansen". |
