He appears to be wearing a one-piece suit. He has one leg crossed over the top of the other leg, and is not wearing any shoes. His hair is dark, and is longer on the top than the sides. The bench is in a grassy area. In the background are trees. On the back is written "Deep Lake / Summer 1929". Stamped in the corner is "117". |

Provenance |
The inscription on the back states that this photograph was taken in the summer of 1929. It lists the location as a lake, although the name of the lake is difficult to read, but may say Deep Lake. 1985.010.002, 1985.010.023, and 1985.010.033 all appear to have been taken at the same event, and some of the subjects are in more than one of these photographs. The photos in this accession relate to the donor's step-father's younger brother Johannes Otto Petersen. Shortly before his death he had given John an album of photos taken during his years in the U.S. Johannes Otto Petersen's hometown was Fredericia, Denmark. He worked in the 1920s as a linotypist with the Danish Lutheran Publishing House in Nebraska. On his return to Denmark he spent the rest of his life as a linotypist with Politiken Newspaper. He died in 1982. The donor removed the photographs from their original album. June Sampson identified some of the locations in the photographs in her Thank You Letter to the donor as Blair, Nebraska; Racine, Wisconsin; California; and Montana. |
