Description |
Black and white photograph of a Christmas tree lit up at night. It is in front of a stone building that has a steeple or clock tower on its viewer left end. There is a crowd of people standing around the base of the tree. A sign by it reads "Politiken".] A label formerly attached to the back, now in the accession file, reads: "DENMARK/SEASONAL TRADITIONS / Every year shortly before Christmas the big dailies / organize collections in order to give the needy, the / lonesome and the aged a happy Christmas Eve. A grand / Christmas dinner is followed by entertainment by well- / known artists and the Royal Ballet. This charity / performance is shown on television. The Copenhagen / daily "Politiken"s Christmas collection is taken in a / large lass box (to the right of the Christmas treee / in front of the town hall) so that the pile of money / may be seen to grow from day to day. The newspaper / offers a prize on the nearest guess as to the total / amount collected. / 75/09/02/66". Stamped sideways on the back center is : "PHOTO: TAGE CHRISTENSEN / COPYRIGHT / Not to be / published / without / permission / POLITIKENS PRESSE FOTO / Rådhusplads 37 - Copenhagen / Telephone Central 8511". Below it is the handwritten mark "as is 100%" and three other stamps. To the right of the handwriting is "Please return to / DANISH INFORMATION / OFFICE / 280 Park Avenue / New York, N. Y. 10017". Beneath the handwriting is "COPYRIGHT / ROYAL DANISH MINISTRY / FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS / Press Department / Copenhagen - Denmark", and "9641" is to its right. |
