Description |
Black and white wedding photograph of a couple on a tan paperboard backing. The man is on the viewer's right sitting in a wood chair with his hands in his lap and legs crossed at the feet. He is wearing a dark colored suit with a light colored shirt and tie. He also has a boutonnière on his proper left jacket lapel. The woman is on the viewer's left and is perched on the arm of man's chair. She is wearing a long light colored lace dress with 3/4 length sleeves and a white sash across her chest with a corsage near her proper left shoulder. She is also wearing light colored stockings and dark patent shoes. |

The couple shown here in their wedding portrait, taken on March 21, 1913 are Maren Johanne Hanson and Einar (Ejnar) Spelling Hanson. Maren Johanne Heiberg, know as Jahanne in the US, was born Dec. 27, 1885 in the vicinity of Herning, Denmark. She joined the Salvation Army at age 19 and had a year of nurses' training. She first came to the US in 1910 and worked as a domestic for a family friend in Worthington. She held various jobs in Sioux City, IA and Minneapolis, MN. She returned to Worthington where she met her husband, Einar Hansen whom she married on March 21, 1913. He was a farmer and worked on various farms managing stock, overseeing, renting, and finally owning his own dairy farm, all in the Worthington area. |
