Provenance |
The location of the photo is not identified, although it appears to be in a gym hall. The items in this accession belonged to Marie Pederson. She was born on June 16, 1888 and grew up in Kimballton, Iowa. She never married, and died in 1976. Marie's parents were Rasmus and Anna Kirstina/Kirstine Pedersen (both on the Wall of Honor). Rasmus Pedersen was born on September 16, 1847 to Peder Rasmussen and Maren Hansdatter, who were farmers in Norup, Denmark. He married Anna Kirstina/Kirstine Nielson (1857-1949), and the couple immigrated aboard the Tigralla in May 1881. In February 1884 Rasmus bought 40 acres from the Chicago Rock Island Pacific Railway and later purchased an additional 80 acres. He was naturalized on December 3, 1894, and because he was naturalized, Anna was not required to do so herself. In 1911 they retired to Kimballton, Iowa and bought a lot from J. M. Gregersen on which they built a house. The couple had six children: Martha, Nels Holger, Peder Marius, Marie (Petra), Dagmar, and Waldermar (also spelled Valdemar). |
