Provenance |
The couple pictured in this wedding photograph are Howard and Rose Jackson. Donor's Family History: Paul Peter Nelson (the donor's grandfather) arrived on May 10, 1869 in Omaha, Nebraska from Odense, Denmark. He was accompanied by his brother, Andrew, and his cousin, J.P. Carlsen. He worked for the Rock Island Railroad before buying 120 acres of land south west of Elk Horn. He met and married Gertrude Marie Axelson, who was a Danish immigrant living in Avoca, Iowa. They had six children: Andrew, Lawrence, Eva, Alfred, Amanda, and Nora. Horse thieves once stole a horse from their farm. Gertrude died at age 59, and Paul moved to Atlantic, Iowa until his death in 1932. Both Gertrude and Paul are on the museum's Wall of Honor. There is more material with additional detail in the accession file. |
