Description |
Black and white wedding photograph of a woman. The woman is wearing a light colored dress with elaborate embroidery on the bodice and a high neckline. She is wearing a brooch and pendant necklace on her neck. She is also wearing a light colored veil in her hair. Flowers can be seen at the top of her head and pinned on the proper left side of her chest. The photograph background is mostly cream except directly behind her which is black with faded edges. There is handwritten text on the back: "Mary Vesgaard / Maren Vesgaard Scambler / Feb. 9. 1911". |

Shown here is a wedding photograph of Maren Vesgaard Scambler on February 9, 1911. Maren Vesgaard (sister of donor) was born on Feb. 9, 1891 in Holmager, Denmark (close to Nibe). She travelled to the U.S in 1908 and married William Scambler on Feb. 9, 1911 in Alta, Iowa. When war was about to start up in Europe, Maren and William travelled back to the U.S from Denmark and brought the donor's siblings with them: Kristian (brother), Hilda (sister) and Dagmar (sister, aged 11). |
