Description |
One of thirty-four black and white photographs that were in an album owned by Johannes Otto Petersen. A photograph of four people; two women and a man standing together in front of a Model T Ford, and a man standing at the front of the car. The men are in suits, and the women in dresses, long coats, and hats. The man to the viewer's left has his arms around the two women and appears to be smoking. The man to the viewer's left has a hat on and his arms behind his back. They are pulled off to the side of the road. The back of another car is visible in the foreground on the right. There are trees and bushes lining the road. On the back is written "Chrystal Lake / Sommrerse 1926" and an inscription in Danish (the writing is difficult to read and therefore the transcription may not be entirely accurate). There is a stamp in the bottom right corner that reads "51". |

Provenance |
The photos in this accession relate to the donor's step-father's younger brother Johannes Otto Petersen. Shortly before his death he had given John an album of photos taken during his years in the U.S. Johannes Otto Petersen's hometown was Fredericia, Denmark. He worked in the 1920s as a linotypist with the Danish Lutheran Publishing House in Nebraska. On his return to Denmark he spent the rest of his life as a linotypist with Politiken Newspaper. He died in 1982. The donor removed the photographs from their original album. June Sampson identified some of the locations in the photographs in her Thank You Letter to the donor as Blair, Nebraska; Racine, Wisconsin; California; and Montana. |
