Description |
Black and white oval portrait photograph of a woman - Sophia Læssøe. She is wearing a mid-toned dress with a full skirt and sleeves. There is light-colored lace at the collar and on the bodice and sleeves. She has a thick dark necklace and bracelets. Her hair is parted in the middle, curled into waves, and pulled back. It is mounted on off-white paperboard backing with the words "Chr. Neuhaus / [logo] KIOVENHAVEN. / Kióbmagergade 14." at the bottom. The back is printed with the studio information: "Chr. Neuhaus / KIÓBENHAVN. K. / Kióbmagergade 14. / PLADEN OPBEVARES FOR EFTERBESTILLING." Black handwriting reads "Mother's Mother - / Our dear grandmother / died at age 40." and blue reads "Mrs. Sophia Lessoe". |

This photograph shows Sophia Læssøe, Helga (Læssøe) Larsen's mother. ------------- Helga Amalia (née Læssøe) Larsen was born in Copenhagen on November 5, 1868, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Læssøe. In 1893, she came to America, residing in Chicago for four years and later moving to Lake County, Illinois. In 1903, Helga's husband, Peter Larsen (whom she married on March 26, 1898) purchased a farm on the state line in Kenosha County. Helga and Peter had six children. She resided in Kenosha, Wisconsin the rest of her life. |
