Summary / Description |
Hardcover book - leather covered wood panels as covers, leather spine. Very thick book. The leather is folded over the wood panel on front and back, and pieces of rope are visible connecting the bound pages to the wood. Pages are off white, and printing is in black. At the front is a blank page covered with handwritten notes, and another is in back. Text only. 6 1/4W x 8L x 4 7/8T PROVENANCE: The Bible belonged to the donor's husband's grandparents in Denmark and was brought with them from Denmark. Martha Jorgensen, the donor, was born Feb. 15, 1905 on her parents' farm in Audubon County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Christopher and Catherine Hansen Clausen. She died November 11, 1994 at the Salem Lutheran Nursing Home in Elk Horn, Iowa. Martha attended Rose Hill rural school in Audubon County, and was part of Ebenezer Lutheran Church west of Audubon. She married George L. Jorgensen, and the two farmed in Douglas Township, east of Kimballton. After retiring from farming, they moved into Audubon. George died in 1970, and Martha lived then in Atlantic and Harlan before becoming a resident of the Friendship Home in Audubon. In 1993, she moved to Elk Horn. |
