Hardcover book, gray covers. Around the title and author is a thick border with a sort of serpent or dragon design on the left and right, something similar but with no heads at the top, and a series of birds at the bottom. Inside the front cover is written at the top "Til Fru Laura Sorensen / til Erindring om Opholdet i Chicago 1930 / fra / Dansk Arbejder Sangforening-". At the bottom is written "Chicago, Ill Aug. 13, 1930 / Headquarters: Danish Nat'l Committee / for. DANSK-AMERIKANSK KLUB. " and then three signatures. Contains 94 numbered pages. 8 1/8 x 10 7/8 PROVENANCE: This book seems to have been a gift from the Dansk Arbejder Sangforening (Danish working song association?) to the donor in 1930 as a remembrance of her time in Chicago. On the same page as the note about that group is another about the Dansk Amerikansk Klub with a few signatures from Danish National Committee members - the secretery, treasurer, and a witness. Laura Sorensen was born in Kansas City, Kansas on March 29, 1895, to Danish immigrat parents Berthel and Amalia Thompsen. Laura married Jacob Sorensen, also an immigrant, in 1913 and the couple earned their living in the dairy business until 1951 when they retired. Laura moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma on November 1, 1990. |
