Scope / Description |
Certificate of confirmation for Hans Peter Kristian Hansen with the title "Konfirmations Minde". The certificate is on cream colored paper and has several sections of religious designs in black ink. At top center is an image of Jesus. He has long hair and a beard and is wearing a white robe. Jesus is holding a loaf of bread in his left hand and is blessing it while a chalice of wine is to the viewer's left. Light colored clouds surround the image of Jesus. Two winged angels in circular borders flank the center of the certificate. The angel on the viewer's left has his hands up in prayer while the one on the viewer's right has his head bowed. Leaves and vines are behind these depictions along the vertical edges. At the bottom center of the certificate is an image of a cross and chalice with the Alpha and Omega signs are on either side of it. Additional foliage surrounds this area. The printed and handwritten text at center relates that Hans was born in December of 1882 and was confirmed in November of 1896. His confirmation was at a Danish evangelical Lutheran church in Webster County, Iowa. The pastor's signature is below the text at center; "E.A. Hjortsvang". The certificate is housed in a decorative wood frame with carving designs across the entire surface. It is painted a bronze color. The internal perimeter has a rope design while floral motifs run along the external perimeter. The certificate measures 11.75 inches long, 15.9 inches tall, and 1 inch deep. |
