Scope / Description |
A note for Thyra Muller Rasmussen, most likely written in 1918. The rectangular, horizontally oriented note is made from white cardstock paper. There is a thin, light blue edge detail. The text is written in dark ink. There is writing on both the front and the back side. There is a envelope (2014.006.006b) with this note. MEASUREMENTS Length: 3.375" Width: 5.125" PROVENANCE: The archival materials with this gift lot relate to the donor's mother, Thyra Muller Rasmussen Nussle. The letters, cards, and notes were all sent to Thyra around the time of her confirmation in 1918. Thyra Muller Rasmussen was born October 7, 1902 in Kimballton, Iowa, married Robert Nussle on April 15, 1928, and died in April 1999. Thyra's parents were Anders Peter Rasmussen and Kristine Marie Muller. Anders Peter immigrated to the United States and attended Danebod Folk School in Tyler, Minnesota where he met Kristine. Anders Peter married her in Minnesota on September 20, 1901. The couple settled in Kimballton, Iowa. Two months after Thyra was born, Anders Peter died of Typhoid. Kristine worked for a time at Faabor's store in Kimballton and took in boarders to provide for herself and Thyra. In 1911, Kristine married Jens Andersen, an immigrant from Sjælland who, with a partner, ran the local furniture store. Over the next several years, he and Kristine had five children together. They lived in Kimballton until the early 1940s when Kristine became ill. The family moved to Chicago and she died November 30, 1946. Thyra helped her mother care for her five siblings. After confirmation, she attended Danebod Folk School and worked for awhile at the hospital in Tyler. She later attended Iowa Lutheran School of Nursing in Des Moines, and graduated in 1925. Her nursing career took her to Chicago where she met Robert Nussle and married him on April 15, 1928. In 1950, the two founded Viking Metal Cabinet Company, Inc. These materials were given first to the Genealogy Center for use in an exhibition, with the intention of being considered for the collection following that use. They were given to curatorial in March 2014. -------------------------------------------------- NOTE: There are materials in the paper accession folder that were used in the Genealogy Center exhibit. materials include copies of photographs and articles about Thyra. If any of these archival pieces are used in exhibition, the materials may be helpful for reference or display. |
