Scope / Description |
Material: Glass/Wood/Paper/ Description: Framed advertisement celebrating Denmark's 25th anniversary of liberation. Advertisement is in black and gray scale on white paper, featuring an illustration of a Danish soldier holding the Danish flag on the viewer's left side of the page, with the title and text on the viewer's right side and bottom of the page. This advertisement/message is from the Danes and Danish-Americans of Greater New York, and thanks America for supporting Denmark's liberation struggle. The advertisement was reprinted from The New York Times, May 5, 1970. Advertisement has been framed by 'Frames by James, Custom Picture Framing.' (James Doyle, 460-9773, 5426 Amberwood Lane, Rockville, MD., 20853). The light-colored wood frame measures 15 1/4" length, and 12 1/3" width and has a gold decorative border on the inside of the frame. There is also a red mat with a lighter yellow/tan inside border framing the advertisement. The backside of the frame has been sealed with brown paper, which is torn diagonally from viewer's left to right). Screw anchors are mounted just above center and connected by braided metal wire (used to hang the print). The (viewer's) left bottom corner bears the green business sticker from 'Frames by James.' Below the sticker are the numbers 11-70, written in red pencil. On the backside, there is a diagonal pencil line that runs nearly the entire length of the center with a small horizonal mark, laying out where the nail would go. At the top/center one of the metal tabs is beginning to show through, as well as two more on the (viewer's) right side. All four corners of the frame show wear. The (viewer's) upper right corner of the backside has a small dent. Dimensions: 15 1/4 x 12 1/4 Provanence: Print is an ad from the N.Y. Times, May 5, 1970. Borge is an immigrant and arrived April 9, 1956. He settled originally in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. He was born May 4, 1928, married first on March 4, 1956, and married again on June 7, 1985 (if I'm reading the receipt correctly). Donor and his wife Aase M. Christensen are on the WOH. |
