Scope / Description |
An address book that has been used as a notebook, with notes and newspaper clippings. Writing in both English and Danish. Carl William Fritz Tofte was the son of Wilhelm Tofte and Elise (Sorensen) Tofte. He was born on June 27, 1901 in Copenhagen, DK. He lived in Copenhagen for 23 years and then moved to Danzig, Germany and worked for an import/export firm. He was also a volunteer for the Royal Danish Guard. In 1924 he arrived in the United States, spending time in New York City before going to Waverly, Iowa and working for the Heiberg Company. In 1928 he married Grace Beebe in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In 1932 he began the Waverly Electric Shop which he ran for 25 years and then retired in December 1957. Tofte was a member of the Waverly City Council and oversaw the construction of the new electric light plant. He was also a memeber of the St. Paul's Church Council and the Bartels Lutheran Home Board. During his time in Iowa, Tofte was a memeber of the Masonic Order and was a member of the Tyrell Lodge, Gethro Chapter, and the Waverly Commandry of the Order in Waverly and the El Kahir Shrine in Cedar Rapids. |
