Scope / Description |
Aerogram to Annelise from Karen Jensen. The aerogram consists of one foldable piece of paper serving both as envelope and writing paper. The paper is light blue. To the viewer's right on one side of the page is what is the outside of the aerogram when it is folded, and to the viewer's left on that side is the ending of the letter. On the other side of the page, the part of the page to the viewer's left is blank, and the letter begins on the part of the page to the viewer's right. In the top corner to the viewer's right on that page, it says "København 20-11-56", and to the viewer's left of that are a few lines written upside-down. The letter as well as the addresses on the outside of the aerogram are written by hand in blue ink. On what is the front of the aerogram when it is folded is some pre-printed text in blue. In the top corner to the viewer's right is a blue, pre-printed postage stamp with the picture of king Frederik IX, and in the top corner to the viewer's left it says "AEROGRAM" in blue letters. Below is a blue box with white letters saying "LUFTPOST / PAR AVION". Across the postage stamp is a round postal mark. In the bottom corner to the viewer's left is a blue, pre-printed triangle with a post horn inside, and below that is says "13". Across the middle of the page, an address is written, and above that "12/56" is added in blue pen. There are two flaps attached to this part of the page, both have the text "TO OPEN CUT HERE" pre-printed in blue on them. On what is the back of the aerogram when it is folded is another handwritten address. When the page is unfolded, this is upside-down. There are also a few lines of pre-printed text in blue. In the letter, Karen thanks Annelise for her greetings on Karen's birthday as well as for a package of tea that Annelise sent her. She writes that she likes the tea very much and that, with the gloomy international political situation in mind, she will save it in case rationing will be reimposed. She also thanks Annelise for a letter that she sent in the summer including some pictures of her parents at a seventieth birthday. She writes that the weather that summer was not good, but that the autumn weather has been better. She writes that Annelise's maternal aunt, Karen Laugesen, has had a great summer and traveled a lot, and she writes that her own vacation in Jutland was also nice. Then she writes that the cousins had a great time in California. She writes that her sister lives outside Los Angeles and took the cousins on many trips. She then writes that Jimmy sends Annelise his greetings, and she writes that she and Jimmy often talk about Annelise and her family. Written upside-down at the top of the first page of the letter is a note, in which Karen asks Annelise to send her greetings to Annelise's husband, and then she asks when they will be visiting Denmark. 6 1/2 x 10. |
