Black cardboard scrapbook with a 1 7/8" vertical orange strip on the proper right side and spine. The scrapbook is held together by a 2-ring trapper keeper. The interior pages are filled with article clippings and hand written notes on American History, the U.S. flag, and other patriotic teachings. The materials were used by Dagmar and Karl Eriksen to study for their citizenship tests. The later half of the scrapbook also documents parts of World War II and the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt. 10 7/8" L x 9" W Karl Eriksen (Erick Carl Eriksen, April 15, 1883-1966) and his wife Dagmar Mathilde Eriksen (b. Karl had previously been in the U.S. in 1911 and 1916. Karl was born in Skaarup, Denmark, and Dagmar in Nørre Esterbølle, Denmark. They were married in 1919 in Nørre Sandager Parish, and lived in Margaard, Denmark. Karl was an assistant forest ranger--his parents were former farm manager and head ranger Peder Larsen Eriksen and his late wife Kirsten Nielsen. After immigrating, they first settled in Pine County, MN, and then went to Askov. Karl was a "forester in residence" at Grand View College from 1943 to 1958. |
