The photos also include trips taken in the United States (Yellowstone/Niagra Falls/GrandCanyon) and the sea voyage across the Atlantic ocean. 12 1/2" W x 7 1/4" L x 1 1/2" H Anna Abelona Sorensen was born in Otsego County, New York on 1 August 1913. Anna is recorded as living with her parents in Windsor, Weld County, Colorado in the 1920 and 1930 censuses and was apparently their only child. She appears to have resided in Windsor her entire life. According to the above two censuses, Theodore Sorensen (born Theodor Sørensen) immigrated to the US in 1901. His original emigration and immigration records have not been found. Theodore was naturalized on 30 November 1907 in Kimball County. Nebraska. At some point between then and 1912 he returned to Denmark, where he apparently married Gertrude. The couple arrived back in the US on 16 January 1913 on the S/S Oscar II. In this record their destination was Kimball County, Nebraska; since Theodore was now a U.S. citizen, no questions were asked about where he had been in Denmark. However, the family appears to have spent some time in Otsego County, New York, where Anna Abelona was born. There, Theodor Sørensen joined Danish Brotherhood lodge #300 in Laurens on September 6, 1913. He remained a member of this lodge, despite later residency in Weld County, Colorado, until his death on November 7, 1964 which was recorded in the Danish Brotherhood records and death index. His 1918 WWI draft registration card gives a birth date of June 7, 1880, which is also confirmed in his social security death entry for November 1964. His Danish Brotherhood membership record states that he was born in "Jandrup" in Ribe Co. At that time he was a citizen and working for the G.W. Sugar Co. as a laborer. In the 1920 census he was employed in a sugar boiler factory, and in 1930 he was listed as a foreman in a sugar beet factory. Theodore was born Eling Theodor Sørensen in Kjærup, Janderup parish on 7 June 1880, the fourth child of smallholder Jens Sørensen and wife, Abelone Jakobsen. In January 1913, he petitioned to have his name officially changed to Teodor Sørensen; this was noted alongside his birth and baptismal entry. Gertrude K. P. (maiden name unknown) Sorensen immigrated to the US in 1913, following her marriage to Theodor which occured at an unknown date. She was born on 27 July 1890 and died in Weld County, Colorado, in January 1973. In 1925 9-year-old Abelone accompanied her parents on a trip to Denmark, arriving in New York on the S/S Oscar II on August 14th. In 1936, at the age of 25, Anna Abelona Sorensen returned from another trip to Denmark on the S/S Pilsudski, arriving in New York on August 11th. |
