Scope / Description |
Certificate: The vertically oriented certificate is printed on a piece of off-white paper. It was presented to Reverend Hans Peters Kristian Hansen, acknowledging that he has been received by the clergy of the United Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and ordained as a "Minister of the Gospel of our Lord and Savior" in Racine, Wisconsin on June 5, 1910. It is signed by G. B. Christiansen (President) and A. S. Nielsen (Secretary). The black and beige printed border around the text has an inner edge that looks like rolled and torn edges of paper. In the viewer's lower left corner is a gold colored sticker with raised text that is the seal of the United Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church in American in Blair, Nebraska. The certificate was printed by the Danish Lutheran Publishing House in Blair, Nebraska. Frame: The certificate is held within a wooden frame painted gold with glass across the front. A piece of brown corrugated paper board on the back is held to the frame with nails and tape around the edges. A piece of wire is strung across two eye screws attached to either side of the back of the frame. Dimensions: Certificate: L (14.000in.) x W (11.000in.) Frame: L (15.063in.) x W (12.125in.) x D (0.750in.) Provenance: The certificate was presented to Reverend Hans Peters Kristian Hansen recognizing him as a minister of the United Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church on June 5, 1910. Hans Peter Kristian Hansen is the father of the donor, Emil Hansen. The certificate was found among the belongings of the donor's sister, Doris Robertson, after her death. |
