Letter to Annelise from her aunt, Gerda Clement, with an envelope. One small card enclosed. Letter: Two pages with writing on the front. The letter is written in hand in blue ink. At the top of the first page in the top corner to the viewer's right it says "Sønderborg 26/1. 1956". The letter opens "Kæreste lille Annelise." Above that line are the last few lines of the letter written upside-down. The letter is in Danish. The paper has a watermark with a picture of an airplane on it. Gerda begins the letter by wishing Annelise a happy birthday and by thanking her for her Christmas and New Year's greetings. She then thanks her for a letter and comments on how difficult it is to find the time to sit down and write letters. She then writes that she and her sister, Ellen, had a nice Christmas in Esbjerg with Rikke and Paul, their children, and Grete and her husband. She also writes that Annelise and Warder probably spent Christmas Eve at Annelise's parents' and that on Christmas Day, Annelise and Warder had both his and her parents come over as well as Warder's children of a previous marriage. Then she writes that she is happy that Annelise's father (presumably, though it could be Warder's father) has recovered from problems with his heart, and she writes that she knows that they were very concerned for him, that Annelise is very fond of him, and that they both enjoy gardening. She then writes that it was a lovely trip that Warder and Annelise went on in September, and she goes on to comment on the weather. She writes that they had a great summer and that they all enjoyed being in their summer cottage. She then writes that she wants to take some pictures the following summer to send to Annelise, but that it is a battle each year as no one wants to even gather for group photos. The reason that she is writing the letter so early, she then writes, is that she will be moving into a new apartment soon. Both her and her sister, Ellen, are sad that they are not going to continue living together, but it is important for Gerda, she writes, to secure an apartment before Ellen potentially sells her property leaving Gerda with no place to live. She writes that "Moster" is going to come visit her in the spring, and that she was happy with her life, when she last wrote to Gerda. She then writes about how sad it is that Annelise and Warder's berry bushes died due to the cold weather, and she writes that they have had cold weather in Denmark as well. She then writes about an episode that Annelise has written to her about, where a storm made the water from the ocean come all the way up to Annelise and Warder's house. Then she writes that Ruth, Birthe, and Eva were all very happy with the clothes that Annelise sent, and she writes about Birthe's children Carsten and Henrik. Then she mentions that Ellen is going to be staying with Grete and Hans for three weeks, and she writes that she would like to go on a vacation the following summer is she will be able to afford it. She writes that she would like to go to Northern Italy, but that Switzerland would also be nice. Then she writes that Ellen asks her to wish Annelise a happy birthday on her behalf, and Gerda sends her own best wishes for Annelise. At the end of the letter. Gerda asks Annelise to give Warder the enclosed card. 8 1/2 x 10 3/4. Envelope: The envelope has a red and white border at the top and bottom edge, and the addresses on it are handwritten in dark ink. In the top corner to the viewer's right are two green postage stamps, both with pictures of king Frederik IX. Across these is a postal mark. Next to the top one is a purple stamp with a picture of a post horn with a crown on top of it. Next to the bottom postage stamp are two purple stamps with the text "Luftpost / (Par Avion)". Along the edge to the viewer's left it says "ans 3/24/56". At the bottom edge is another purple stamp with the text "Luftpost / (Par Avion)". The back of the envelope is blank.
