Scope / Description |
Large laminated sheet of newspaper clippings with clippings on both sides. Some clippings are from The Santa Fe New Mexican and Politiken. The clippings are attached to a cream colored heavy paper. The title of the top article on the front side of the sheet is "SOL Y SOMBRA." A second article on the front side of the sheet is titled "Large Numbers of Bohemian Waxwings in New Mexico." The articles found on the back side of the sheet are "Jensen har alt for / travlt til blive / gammel," "Forlovet i Aaarhus - guldbryllup / i Santa Fé," "GARCIA STREET CLUB," and a couple of untitled articles about the Garcia Street Club and the Stamp Club. Dimensions: 11" W x 16 1/2" H Jens Knudsen Jensen was born in Denmark and graduated from high school in 1894. He married Valborg W. Caroline A. Iversen then immigrated to the US. They spent time living in North Dakota before moving to New Mexico. They had a son named Carl in 1904. Jens was a known ornithologist, having a special knowledge of the birds of New Mexico. He also regularly documented his own life through writings and original manuscripts. Jens also had a long teaching career, beginning in New Mexico's Indian schools. Jens was the only person in his family to immigrate but his two brothers and two sisters would visit regularly. Jens died November 16, 1960 in New Mexico and Valborg in December 26, 1970 in California. |
